Unfolding Island Ecologies brings together international artists from the University of the Arts Helsinki whose works respond to the unique island environment of Suomenlinna. Through multimedia installations, performances, and participatory works, the exhibition explores themes of ecological vulnerability, resource constraints, and multispecies interconnectedness.
The exhibition is accompanied by the launch of an edited compilation of the participating artist essays published by the Academy of Fine Arts (Art Theoretical Writings #23). The co-editors of the compilation are Samir Bhowmik, and the co-curators of the Helsinki Biennial 2025: Kati Kivinen and Blanca de la Torre and is funded by the Research Council of Finland.
